Alex Alvarado joins the editorial board of IEEE Transactions on Communications

27 January, 2016

UNLOC senior research associate, Alex Alvarado was invited to become an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Communications.

Alex Alvarado, a senior research associate in the UNLOC project was invited to join the editorial board of the IEEE Transactions on Communications. The journal is published by the IEEE Communications Society and covers a wide area of topics within wireless, wired and optical communications. Alex will serve as an associate editor managing the review process of papers falling within the topic of Optical Modulation and Information Theory. This invitation is yet another recognition of Alex’s skill and commitment as a reviewer, following an award last year by the journal’s editorial board that granted him the status of "Exemplary Reviewer". Such status is highly competitive with only 2% of reviewers acknowledged as “exemplary reviewer” in 2015.

Alex joined the UNLOC project in 2014 after being a Newton International Fellow and Marie Curie Intra-European Fellow at the University of Cambridge. He obtained his PhD in 2011 from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. Alex’s main interest is in developing fundamental theoretical understandings of current and future telecommunication systems and his research lies on the frontier of communication theory, information theory, signal processing, and optical communications. Within UNLOC, Alex is involved in applying information theory to analyze nonlinear optical channels and devise techniques to increase transmission rates.
