Zhe Li, UCL Optical Networks Group, has won a prestigious postgraduate scholarship of £2500 from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
The IET postgraduate scholarships are part of an awards and prizes scheme, which provides over £1,000,000 to celebrate excellence and innovation in the sector and encourage the next generation of engineers and technicians.
Zhe was awarded an IET Postgraduate scholarship in recognition of his outstanding engineering research. Zhe’s thesis title is “High Capacity and Spectrally-efficient Optical Communication System with Low-cost Single Photodiode-based Direct-Detection Transceiver for Metropolitan Transmission Links”; you can find out more about Zhe’s research on his UCL student profile.
The awards are made on a competitive basis and are assessed by the IET Scholarships Committee. Zhe won one of only five scholarships awarded this year. IET postgraduate scholarships are open to applicants in any year of their PhD or EngD research programme.
The IET Postrgaduate Scholarships are designed to promote excellence in engineering research. They provide support for high-quality engineers and encourage them to develop successful academic research careers.
Zhe Li said: “I am absolutely delighted to be selected to be one of the prestigious IET Postgraduate Award winners. It is also my great honour to be acknowledged by the largest multidisciplinary professional engineering institution in the world. I feel that I am one step closer to achieve my career goal in engineering and science.”
Jeremy Watson CBE, IET President, said: These Postgraduate Scholarships, awarded for excellence in engineering, are part of the IET’s annual investment of £1 million in the next generation of engineers.
“The recipients are carrying out leading research at some of the world’s most recognised universities and their research is supporting the advancement of knowledge throughout the global engineering and technology community.”
