Dr Robert Maher Becomes Senior Member of the IEEE

UNLOC's Dr Robert Maher has been elected Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)

Senior membership of the IEEE is only granted to engineers with at least ten years' experience, and five years of significant performance in their field. Dr Maher is a Senior Research Associate with UNLOC, based at UCL and working on the generation, detection and subsequent digital signal processing of high capacity spectrally shaped optical super-channels.

UNLOC Director Professor Polina Bayvel said: "Dr Maher is an outstanding researcher who has made major contributions to the advancement of the field of optical communications, including the experimental application of digital signal processing techniques for optical burst switching and high-speed optical transmission systems. His work has had strong international impact."
